Filming for the second season of Netflix’s most ambitious sci-fi series, 3 Body Problem, has begun or will begin very soon, and we are getting more details about who’s involved in the production.
The show, created by David Benioff and Dan Weiss, the showrunners of Game of Thrones, already had director Jeremy Podeswa in its first season, who also returns in Season 2. Podeswa directed multiple episodes of Game of Thrones across several seasons.
Joining Podeswa in the second season of 3 Body Problem is now another Game of Thrones veteran: Miguel Sapochnik. Sapochnik directed such episodes as Hardhome, Battle of the Bastards and The Winds of Winter that are among the highest-rated episodes of Thrones. After that, Sapochnik served as co-showrunner of the prequel House of the Dragon for one season before exiting the project.
But that’s not all, working with Sapochnik will be director of photography Catherine Goldschmidt, who worked on multiple episodes of House of the Dragon and received multiple awards for it. Aside from that, she worked on HBO’s The Last of Us. Her and Sapochnik will work on Block 2 of the second season.
That, along with multiple former Thrones cast members, it’s a Thrones alum party in 3 Body Problem.
3 Body Problem Season 2 in 2026?
Netflix hasn’t confirmed when Season 2 will be released, but Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos listed the show among returning titles for 2026 during an earnings interview. Therefore, a late 2026 release might be a possibility, as production is only just starting now.
To recap, 3 Body Problem was renewed for two final seasons with filming starting very soon. Production also moved to Budapest, Hungary and the table reads with the cast have already taken place. Filming for both seasons is expected to last until August 2027 with a break planned sometime in between seasons.
We’re hearing that there will be 11 episodes total across Season 2 and Season 3 of 3 Body Problem, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet, although that’s not out of the realm of possibility.
