The Polish romantic comedy Planet Single (Planeta Singli) is making a big return after six years of absence, and this time, exclusively on Netflix. The fourth film in the franchise, titled Planet Single: Greek Adventure (Planeta Singli 4: Wyspa), will premiere exclusively on Netflix on August 27. The franchise, which previously attracted millions of viewers in Poland, is heading to sunnier settings this time: a paradise island forms the backdrop for a story full of romance, satire, deception, and soaring emotions.
The official Netflix description reads: “In the fourth installment of the beloved hit, a celebrity couple, Tomek and Ania, visits a friend, Marcel, who has recently invested in an exotic island resort. They are soon drawn into his ambitious plan to launch a reality show for singles on the island. As the visit unfolds, they suspect their friend’s new partner is a Tinder-Swindler-like con artist. Aided by another friend, up to his nose in conspiracy theories, and opposed by Ania, undergoing hormonal therapy after unsuccessfully trying for a baby, Tomek must save Marcel from a horrible mistake.”
The prior three films, as it stands, are not streaming on Netflix. That said, the successes of the film did lead to a spin-off series, Planet Singles: 8 Stories, on Canal+, which is currently licensed by Netflix, but only in Poland.
Planet Single: Greek Adventure is directed by the duo Sam Akina and Michał Chaciński. Akina previously directed parts two and three, while Chaciński has been involved as screenwriter since the very first film. Together, they form the creative heart of the franchise.
Who’s in the Cast?
Just like in the previous films, the story is carried by the chemistry between Agnieszka Więdłocha and Maciej Stuhr, reprising their roles as Ania and Tomek.
Other cast members of Planet Single: Greek Adventure include:
- Maciej Stuhr as Tomek Wilczyński
- Agnieszka Więdłocha as Ania Kwiatkowska
- Piotr Głowacki as Marcel Galiński
- Weronika Książkiewicz as Ola
- Tomasz Karolak as Bogdan
- Nikodem Rozbicki in an undisclosed role
The Planet Single films represent a rare success story within the Polish film industry. The first movie, released in 2016, became a box office hit and evolved into one of the most beloved Polish romcoms of the past decade. The second film, Planet Single 2, drew more than a million moviegoers in Poland and topped the box office for weeks. The third installment also captured audiences and even led to the aforementioned spin-off series.
Planet Single: Greek Adventure will be available worldwide on Netflix starting August 27. The movie has a runtime of 1 hour and 43 minutes and is rated TV-MA.
